The Candidate Physical Test, also referred to as CPAT, consists of eight critical physical tasks that simulate actual job duties including the following activities:
- Stair Climb
- Hose Drag
- Equipment Carry
- Ladder Raise and Extension
- Forcible Entry
- Search
- Rescue
- Ceiling Breach & Pull

The CPAT and Ladder Climb tests are given by three area locations that offer timed practice courses in addition to the CPAT Test:
PLEASE NOTE: The City of Springfield does NOT coordinate the CPAT Testing. To register for testing and to obtain information about dates and fees, contact the above organizations directly. Each individual applicant is responsible to ensuring their own CPAT Testing.
A copy of the applicant’s valid CPAT card, including confirmation of the successful completion of the Ladder Climb Test, must be between March 11, 2018 and March 11, 2019.
