Effective January 17, 2017, the City of Springfield’s Inspector General has been former Judge Roger Holmes who served on the Seventh Judicial Circuit for more than 20 years. Judge Holmes philosophy,
"As a trial court judge and inspector general, my role is to have a neutral approach to every case...confidentiality and autonomy are the two key words to the position."
The initial correspondence and investigation of the complaints are anonymous to anyone outside the Inspector General’s office. The IG’s office is offsite and not in affiliation with any City of Springfield facilities.

The Inspector General can look into claims about any city department except the Springfield Police Department, which has oversight from its Internal Affairs Division. The Internal Affairs Division can be reached at 217.788.8380. Tips can be left anonymously and names kept confidential.
