Springfield Municipal Band



Twenty-twenty two marks the Springfield Municipal Band’s 86th anniversary of providing free music in the parks for residents and visitors. The 2022 band is directed by Tom Philbrick and includes approximately 80 musicians who alternate on the various performances. The free outdoor concerts are held in at Duncan Park, which is located at Madison & Mason Street, in addition to performances at various events and festivals across the community.

The Municipal Band will begin playing at Duncan Park at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday from June 7 thru August 9 at the bandshell. Duncan Park is located at the intersection of Mason Street and MacArthur Boulevard in Springfield. Following is the Tuesday evening schedule:

  • Tuesday, July 5
  • Tuesday, July 12
  • Tuesday, July 19
  • Tuesday, July 26
  • Tuesday, August 2

The band will also perform at Duncan Park on the following Sundays at 7:00 pm.

The Municipal Band will then play with a smaller ensemble, in partnership with the City of Springfield’s Convention & Visitors Bureau and their History Comes Alive program. This includes at the Edwards Place Ice Cream Social every Friday from June 3 thru August 5, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. The Edwards Place is located at 700 N. 4th Street on the campus of the Springfield Art Association.

The Municipal Band will also play at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library as part of History Comes Alive on the following Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. The Presidential Library is located at the corner of Sixth Street and Jefferson.
